Aquatics Positions - Part Time

Muskegon Y Swim Team (MYST) Assistant Head Coach

Are you passionate about supporting kids in being successful in swimming and in life? Support the Y in continuing our tradition of excellence in the sport of swimming by joining our MYST team.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Must be 18 years of age, or older
  • Technical knowledge of swimming principles and basic skills related to competitive swimming
  • Minimum of 3-years experience coaching youth
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to attend trainings and certifications as required

Safety Around Water (Swimming) Instructor

Did you spend your summers as a kid playing on the beach or swimming like a fish in the lake? If you answered yes to that question and have loved the water since you were little, we have a job for you. Keep future generations safe by passing down the skills needed to be safe in and around water.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Must be 18 years of age, or older
  • Must have basic swim knowledge
  • Swim instructor certification is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to communicate and listen effectively to both children and adults
  • Must be mature, responsible, alert, and professional
  • Must attend CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and other safety trainings when offered
  • Must be a friendly, positive team player
  • Must have a wide range of availability

Lifeguard

Dive into a rewarding opportunity! If you love water and are passionate about ensuring the safety of others, we’re on the lookout for dedicated lifeguards to join our team and contribute to the success of our aquatics programs across Muskegon County.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Must be 16 years of age, or older
  • Must be mature, responsible, and alert
  • Have access to reliable transportation
  • Have the ability to communicate and listen effectively to staff and patrons
  • Must attend CPR, First Aid, and other safety trainings when offered
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work alongside other instructors and Y employees

Health Coach Positions - Part Time

Lifestyle Coach

Are you interested in helping others live their healthiest life? If you’re passionate about goal setting and building relationships, we want you to be a Certified Lifestyle Coach for our Diabetes Prevention Program!

Requirements for this position include:

  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship building skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Empathy for health seekers
  • Flexibility to work with people with diverse backgrounds in a variety of settings
  • Cultural competency and understanding of behavior change

Livestrong Instructor

We’re searching for someone who is passionate about well-being and driven to make a difference in the lives of others. As a Livestrong Instructor, you will implement fitness classes for cancer survivors in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes wellness and engagement.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Group Exercise, Personal Training certification or education in the fitness field is preferred
  • Availability to teach at least 2 classes per week
  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship building skills
  • Empathy for survivors
  • Flexibility to work with people with diverse backgrounds in a variety of settings

Youth Coach Positions - Part Time

Youth Outreach Instructor

Remember the neighborhood games you played as a kid? If you would like to teach the next generation what it’s like to run around and play outside we have the job for you! This is a great experience for those that want to work with kids.

The Muskegon YMCA is looking for before and after school program instructors to work with kids at various sites throughout our community.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Some experience working with children (examples include preschool assistant, camp counselor, child care, sports camp, or similar experience)
  • Relate well to children, parents, team members, and have superior communication skills
  • Interest in health and fitness
  • High energy and hustle
  • Friendly, positive attitude
  • After school availability/evenings during the summer
  • Training on specific physical activity curriculum will be provided
